Create a URL QR Code for Any Website

A URL QR code stores a web address so a phone camera can open the page in one tap. Paste your link, style the code, and download it as PNG, SVG or PDF. The code is static, so it keeps working for as long as the web page exists.

How a URL QR code works

The code contains nothing but the address itself, for example https://example.com/menu. When someone scans it, the camera app reads the text, recognises the https:// scheme and offers to open the page in the browser. No redirect service sits in between, so there is no tracking and nothing that can be switched off later.

If you type a bare domain such as example.com, the generator adds https:// automatically so phones treat it as a link rather than plain text.

Keep the link short and under your control

  • Shorter URLs produce fewer modules, which means a less dense code that scans faster from a distance.
  • Remove tracking parameters you do not need before generating.
  • For printed material, point to a page on a domain you own; you can then change what the page shows without reprinting the code.
  • Avoid third-party link shorteners on printed codes. Security-minded scanners, including the one in this app, treat them as a caution sign because the final destination is hidden.

Design and print checks

Dark modules on a light background with strong contrast scan most reliably. Leave a quiet zone of about four modules around the code and print it at least 2 cm wide for close-range use; posters read from a few metres away need proportionally more. A logo is fine as long as error correction is raised, which the app does for you, and the built-in test scan confirms the result before you save it.

How to make it

  1. Open Create and choose Website as the code type.
  2. Paste the full address of the page you want people to visit.
  3. Pick colours, dot shape, an optional logo and a frame with a call to action such as Scan me.
  4. Wait for the scan test to pass, then download PNG, SVG or PDF, or print directly.

Frequently asked questions

Do URL QR codes expire?

No. A static code simply contains the address, so it works as long as that web page stays online. Only codes created through a redirect service can stop working if the service is cancelled.

Can I change the link after printing?

Not inside the code itself; a static QR code cannot be edited. Point it to a page on a domain you control and update that page or set a redirect on your own server instead.

Which file format is right for printing?

SVG or PDF. They are vector formats, so the code stays perfectly sharp at any size, from a sticker to a banner. PNG is fine for screens and documents.

Can I see how many people scanned it?

A plain URL code has no counter. You can add campaign parameters (such as utm_source=poster) to the link and read the visits in your own website analytics.
